To Fantasy or Not To Fantasy

For the past couple of months I have had the urge to play some WHF, but I have had a hard time deciding on an army to play.

At first, I wanted to play Chaos Dwarves using the Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army Book, but after reading through the book, I am somewhat turned off by it. Do not get me wrong, I think the book is very well done and there are a lot of new and interesting ideas in it. It is just that there are a few little things that bother me. Also, it is not an army list I would be able to use in the League I am thinking of joining.

I do have a rather large Dwarf army (that I have been trying to sell) that I could play, but I am just not that interested in playing them. I also have a sizable Orc & Goblin army, but with all the work I am doing on my 40k Orks, I would rather work on something different. Fantasy armies that I am interested in include:
  • Tomb Kings
  • Warriors of Chaos
  • Lizardmen
  • Ogre Kingdoms
  • Beastmen
I am not sure why it is so hard to choose, but it is. Thoughts?

Fantasy is great get back into it. Tomb Kings and Ogres are both due new books and minis relatively soon so I'd take that into account when making your choice vs. Warriors, Beastmen and Lizardmen who've all had quite recent new books. Personally I'm a Warriors and Beastmen player because I love the background and the minis. Gaming wise I reckon Lizardmen would be a good choice as they can have a bit of everything in with flyers, skirmishers, ranged troops, combat blocks, big monsters and powerful characters. As ever with army choices I guess it's a really personal thing :D Looking forward to seeing what you pick!

Tomb Kings would have been my first choice, but as you say, with a new book and minis rumored to be on the horizon, it is hard justifying starting an army at this time.

There's a new Orc & Goblin book on the horizon, so best to wait (which coincides with what you're doing). As for the Chaos Dwarves, do you have enough to field an army? If so it would be a shame not to use them. I wonder if the old Ravenous hordes list is still legal?

The Ravening Hordes list for CDs is legal, but not very competetive from what I hear. As for O&G new book in May, I have heard this rumor too, but I need something other than Orcs to work on when I need to take a break from my 40k Orks.
